The rental was great. Only thing we found not to be addressed.
1) No broom - A dust pan and brush are rigid to clean an RV. 2) No cleaning products. We had to buy window cleaners to clean the bathroom, counters, and windows. I also needed to buy dish detergent as well. 3) We were told that AdBlue was required however not every gas station had the product. 4) Paper towels and toilet paper - No paper towels and not enough toilet paper for the time we had the RV - 8 Days.
Otherwise, the rental was complete and we enjoyed it.
Eric James Corriea, United States, posted on 15 September 2024, vendor was McRent IcelandNice RV, Great Service
I was pleasantly surprised with the customer service. When I arrived, they were extremely nice and extremely thorough to prepare me for my trip. They give you a whole binder of tips and guides not just for the RV, but for road trips in Iceland in general. They text with weather warnings and updates. I got one of the semi integrated RV's and it was perfect for two grown adults comfortably. The pick up takes a bit, but I was grateful for the extensive talk through they give you about safety and how everything in the RV works. Do heed their warnings, they tell you upfront all the things not to do and what you'll get charged for, so don't be surprised if you don't follow their guidelines and end up getting charged. Overall, I would say it was a good rental with great, friendly service. The RV had a fridge/freezer which kept ice 24/7 and I only ran through a tank and a half of propane over two weeks, which was nice. If I ever come back, I would definitely use them again.

Rental Companies generally have a pretty bad reputation, so it was refreshing to have such an amazing positive experience.
The team on arrival were very friendly, went through in great detail everything about the vehicle and what conditions were expected around Iceland and what to do when certain weather conditions were met.
Now, maybe i missed it (and honestly nothing one can do about it any) but you can not drive in winds at or above 15m/s for insurance reasons. Just good to know when you are planning your trip as weather can definitely affect your schedule (even in Summer!!)
Now we had a whoopise on our trip (not our fault - swear). Whilst heading around the North East , another vehicle veered into our lane and struck our side mirror, shattering it. (Literally saw our lives flash before our eyes).
The team made sure this was no big deal when we returned, by providing all the documentation we needed for our third party insurer to claim the costs incurred for the damage.
(I highly recommend rentalcover.com as well).
Anyway, what I was concerned would be a nightmare issue was resolved relatively hassle free.
A huge thanks to the team at McRent Iceland. i would DEFINITELY use again and highly recommend.
NOTE: The car rental shuttle bus from the airport does not take you to this rental yard so you will need to make your own way.

good camper, drove, handled and shifted nice. A little crowded for 6 people, would be great for 4. Everything worked well, heat, stove, refrigerator. Plugging in at campgrounds worked well but there was a breaker in a closet that turns off the power from the campground. At one campground we must have hit the switch without knowing it and shut it off the power. It was a remote area with no phone service so we left that campground. When we got to where the phones worked the support phone guy told us immediately how to fix the problem. I would not buy the barbeque grill option or the charcoal to put in the barbeque. The grill was tiny, had to be assembled and the charcoal was the worst I've ever seen. The camper had plenty of storage space for your luggage. The bathroom area in the camper was tiny and we just used the bathrooms at the campgrounds that we stayed at. They were all pretty nice with nice hot showers. Don't bother with the Garman GPS they supply. Pretty useless, tiny, maps aren't updated.. Google maps is so much better.

We really enjoyed our camping adventure, thanks to the beautiful camper and excellent service we received. The camper was newer, spotless, and contained everything we needed. The orientation we were given was comprehensive but not overly long. When we had an issue out of their control, they were quick to respond and brought us a new vehicle rather quickly. Our biggest pre-trip worry was that we would have trouble falling asleep while it was still bright out. The camper had black out shades that made it so dark that we didn't need sleep masks. Public restrooms are rare on the ring road. Having a toilet on board freed up time. We also loved being able to pull over at a rest area and prepare a meal as we traveled. I highly recommend Motorvana and McRent. I hope to have the opportunity to use them again in the future.
C. Breeze, USA, posted on 11 June 2023, vendor was Touring CarsPerfect Mode of Travel
We thought a rented camper van would be the best way to see Iceland and we were not disappointed. "Her Royal Ship" (HRS 10) Hobby Optima Ontour T65 FL gave us the flexibility we wanted and access to a multitude of fantastic points of interest. Best of all was the provided tablet for GPS, a wi-fi hot spot, and travel info like campground links, road conditions and weather. Many of our destinations were already saved in Google Maps. If your tablet doesn't have it, also download the "Road.is" App: it provides even more current detailed travel info. We wouldn't have needed the two Iceland phone sim cards we purchased at the airport had we known we would have the hotspot.
We did have to deal with a leaky kitchen sink faucet, but other than that, it was a perfect mode of travel for us. We also questioned the advice given to leave the gray water valve open as we saw other campers emptying their tanks at designated spots. But what a luxury to trust the drinking water everywhere!
Best of luck on your Icelandic adventure with Touring Cars.

Very pleased with service of Peter allowing early checkout of excellent unit. When I reported an engine check light, most likely an emissions issue, Peter insisted on swapping unit at our location several hours from McRent headquarters. We lost no time on our trip and received a unit virtually identical to our original unit except for a 9 speed automatic upgrade. It performed perfectly for remainder of trip. Receiving a nice map of campsites open with a comprehensive list of services available was most helpful.

Spacious enough for all, with easy instructions and information needed to make our vacation one to never forget! Highly recommend!

We hired the motorhome for our family holiday, which we had to move due to Covid a couple of times. McRent were very accomodating and helpful. We arranged for McRent to collect us from the Airport to pick up the vehicle. This worked well. After going through all formalities and a staff member explained the motorhome in detail which was very helpful. Weather warnings, road conditions and websites were explained, again very useful. After about an hour we started our travels. We explored the Golden circle and the Ringroad and thoroughly enjoyed the landscape and country. A few days into our journey we noticed the fridge was not cooling. We contacted McRent and they arranged for someone to meet us and fix the fridge. McRent's service was great, we would be happy to use the company again.

We also got warnings in case bad weather was heading our way, plus helped us getting back to the airport. I will recommend McRent any day

We picked Motorvana online for RV quality and price, and we got so much more working with the McRent team in Iceland. For starters, our rental agents were RV'ers themselves and were able to share their experiences and recommendations based on how they camp. And, of course, they know Iceland, right down to specific local suggestions on our route and keeping us informed through weather alerts. Picking up the RV gave us a thorough orientation and was not rushed. Returning the RV was convenient and hassle free. McRent remained available to assist with any detail during our two week trip but, since they had prepared us and our camper so well, we didn't have any problems. There were some Covid retrictions in place, but McRent worked through those thoughtfully.

The coordinator at motorvana was excellent, responsive and helpful. McRent were professional and the motorhome was in a good condition. At check-in they were very helpful and gave us useful tips. We had an issue with the window that apparently was bro ken and glued by the previous driver and when we showed it upon return to the lady at McRent the window fell and cracked. McRent realized it was their responsibility and didn't charge us.

Before we decide to rent a motorhome, we read up the reviews online.
Quite a number of people mentioned that the rental company charged them exorbitant charges when they returned their car. Things that were already damaged before the rental were also pinned against them.
To avoid all these as much as possible, we took a little more effort to search for a more reliable agent. Then we chance upon Motorvana.
From the start, they were responsive to our queries. They know their work. We are from Singapore and they know our normal license ain't enough to allow us to rent a motorhome in Iceland. Lucky for us, we have a different kind of license and we were given the go ahead.
Their emails entail precise and detailed information which is very easy to comprehend.
There were airport transfers arranged and Motorvana assigned Touring Car Company for our case.
We were briefed for appx 1 to 2 hours on the safety and functionality of the motorhome and were given ample time to check on the vehicle before we started our journey.
On the day of return, Touring Car gave the vehicle a thorough check and no charges were made against us for we tidied up the vehicle as clean as we possibly could. I guess mutual respect goes both ways. Return a clean car and everyone is happy.
Overall, we are very pleased with what we got. Thank you Motorvana.

My wife and I returned October 25th from a 2 week vacation in Iceland where we booked a motorhome through Motorvana and drove a Touring Cars vehicle. We were met at the Keflavic International Airport by an enthusiastic Touring Cars employee who drove us to our motorhome pickup location. It took about 1 hour to be briefed on the ins and outs of the motorhome and complete the paperwork before departing on our holiday. The motorhome was clean and performed as we expected. We had a couple of minor questions about the motorhome along the way and were able to email the office, receiving a response within 5 to 10 minutes each time. We were surprised and thrilled to receive a tablet that provided us free wifi throughout the entire country. It also made it easier to check on road, general weather and specifically wind conditions each day. Returning the motorhome was easy and we were transported back to the airport for our return home.
We loved Iceland and would not hesitate to book through Motorvana and drive a Touring Cars vehicle in the future.

Short version: perfect Long version: Eric from Motorvana has been a wonderful counterpart during the whole booking / paying process. I really want to thank him for the quick answers and the patience of speaking with non perfect english speakes (me and my father) to solve some issues related with the payment of the final balance. MCRent, while probably not the cheapest RV rental in Iceland, proved to be very professional and of a different standard compared to other renalt companies. The RV was in perfect conditions, they where waiting for us at the airport as scheduled and the whole renting / returning process was completely hassle free. I also have to mention that my father had a small accident with his RV but MCRent managed the damage fee very professionally, not trying to overcharge it. Finally, the insurance we purchased from Motorvana partner (Rentalcover) managed the remboursment to my father in less than a week. Speechless. Thank you for contribuiting in making our vacations a relaxing period and not a nightmare as you read sometime over the internet.

This was our first time to rent an RV anywhere. We were pleasantly surprised by the McRent personnel who were friendly and very helpful. When we had trouble on the road, we called the office and had help within 20 minutes and were back on the road in less than an hour. The RV was the perfect size for the roads in Iceland...had one problem with the RV. The vibration from the allowed gravel roads broke the hinges on the bathroom door. We chose not to call and have it fixed and the staff when we returned could not believe we didn't call...they felt bad that we didn't report it so they could fix it.

We rented from Touring Cars back in 2016 and its been on my mind since then to write this review. Our trip on the Ring Road around Iceland was the most amazing experience of our lives. Touring Cars made it possible and their service was extraordinary. We had a blown fuse on our first night but they came out to make the repair. Seven days later, in Akureyri, an improperly installed oil filter leaked to the point at which the motorhome ran out of fuel. Touring Cars contacted a mechanic who took us to his garage late at night to make the repair. Touring Cars was extremely gracious and communicative throughout our journey. We would highly recommend them and hope to use them again on another adventure!

Myself, husband and two teenage children spent 10 days driving the Ring Road. The Motorhome we hired from McRent via Motorvana was in excellent condition, very clean and had just about everything we needed. We had a very thorough introduction when picking up the Motorhome and equally when returning it was very efficient. We would definitely use McRent again and perhaps next time were in Iceland, hopefully, it wont rain quite as much!! Great team who helped us get set up for our 2 week RIng Road adventure in Iceland. They were very thorough in reviewing everything we needed to know about the camper, and the areas we planned to travel to. At the end, they were very patient with us emptying out our "home" and giving us a ride to a hotel.
The camper quality was also excellent- very clean, had everything we needed for the kitchen, and had plenty of storage space for 4 people's gear and food for 2 weeks.
The beds were comfortable, and the fluffy duvets were a bonus (nicer than any fancy hotel). It was hard to wake up in the morning!
This was one of the most memorable vacations we have had as a family, and we've been to many countries, and some pretty upscale resorts.

We had a wonderful experience - Touring Cars explained all the features and how to work everything on the motorhome. We watched a video and walked through the vehicle. I had my two sons and I and we wandered all over the south and west of the island. It was great not to have a to be somewhere or have a specific stop we could wander and stay as long as we wanted on the trails and at the waterfalls. What a great way to travel. And we loved Iceland - around every bend was another jaw dropping vista!

Had a wonderful adventure this last December / January renting a caravan in Iceland. Originally, I was a bit concerned about winter exploration with an RV, but all fears were put aside with the excellent set-up we rented from Touring Cars. Our RV was outfitted with studded tires and everything worked perfectly.
Special mention must be made to Matt, who picked us up at the airport with a smile and assisted us to check out our vehicle. He checked in with us during our rental to see how things were going, which was also very professional and courteous.
Would highly recommend Touring Cars for any camper adventure plans you might have.

We rented a 4 passenger camper from McRent in October of 2018 and it was amazing! Their customer service was outstanding as we had an issue with the water not working on day 3 into our drive around the island. They were fantastic setting us up for maintenance in the next town we were headed to. At the garage they quickly tended to the issue and got us back on the road in no time. The camper was very clean and ran great even through the mountains in the north. We loved our stay in Iceland and the McRent rental company made it even better. We highly recommend them to anyone needing a camper while in Iceland.

This was a great experience from start to finish. From the booking at Motorvana to the pickup and return at McRent everything was super smooth. The RV was like new and the pickup and briefing prior to driving was just right. What an incredible way to enjoy the land of fire and ice!! We were so happy we had a larger rv with the the toilet and shower. Some of the folks in the smaller vans turned campers were pretty cranky waking up on the rainy/windy mornings. The larger RVs are super easy to drive and get around just fine, although you cannot go on the interior 4x4 only roads. If you are going to rent in Iceland, certainly recommend Motor Vana and McRent!

We took our grown children on a nine day trip around the ring road in September. The overall experience, beginning with the booking agent, Motorvana, through the check-in, use and check-out with McRent was first class. Motorvana is based out of the US so the communication and reservation process was straight forward and easy. McRent's fleet is all newer units (0-2 years old - ours was one year old) so everything was crisp and clean. Although we rented at the end of their season we felt like we were their first customers. Highly recommend Motorvana!

My husband and I love the outdoors and usually tent camp. But we were concerned about the changeable weather in Iceland, so we decided to try a small RV. We loved it! The Fiat diesel was plenty powerful enough for 12% grade near Vik. It was spotlessly clean and pretty well equipped. It allowed us to economize while we cooked breakfast, lunch and some dinners on the stove top. The mattress was too firm for my liking, but the bathroom was really, REALLY handy in a country where stops are far and few between. It was nice and cozy for sleeping and more so as we did not have to get up and put away a wet tent in the chilly morning. The campgrounds in Iceland are very nice, but a bit pricey. We used the campground showers as the RV was very small with limited hot water to wash my long hair. Would recommmend this to all visitors going around the island

We rented a camper for our family (2 adults, 2 kids under 10) and it was a great way to see the country. If you're looking for a unique experience that gives you the flexibility to make changes to your plans, this is a fantastic way to go. Additionally, it's great to have cooking capabilities as eating out in Iceland can get expensive quickly.
McRent was fantastic, especially after our toilet broke. They were responsive, found us a mechanic near where we were spending the night, and were able to everything fixed with minimal disruption to our trip. It worked out about as well as it can, considering the circumstances.

From first contact with Motorvana last February 2018, we found them to be very helpful in answering a bunch of technical questions, not only about the rv rental and its equipment, but also with currency issues between Us and Cdn dollars, Euros and Icelandic Crowns and methods of payment. Frederik Beij, from Motorvana, was great. He seemed to always be there when we needed info and got back to us within hours, if not minutes. His obvious knowledge and experience made a world of difference. The trip itself, mid-June 2018, was fascinating. Blend a bit of Canadian Rockies, Montana and Idaho, add a touch of Alaska, shake in some of Newfoundland's wilderness, multiply the result by ten...boom, you have Iceland. Touring Car's procedures are well honed and quite efficient. We were lucky to be greeted by Matthew, though I'm sure others are as nice, but he was very professional, patient and very generous with his time. Based on this great experience, it's very likely we might become repeat offenders and are currently investigating options to rent another rv, this time in northern Europe and tour Scandinavia. Thanks Motorvana and TouringCars. Alain and Mariette
Nacho, Spain, posted on 23 August 2018, vendor was McRent IcelandEverything was perfect
We rented a McRent motorhome through MOTORVANA. They looked for different alternatives and booking with Motorvana you get for free (you pay to other company for the insurance of up to 2800 eur damages but you get some discounts by Motorvana at the same time). This reduction could cost around 30-40 eur per day. So it is a good deal. Everything was perfect without surprises. From the airport to the base (around 4 km away) you take a taxi (around 2300 isk).
With McRent, the motorhome was very new. Good explanations about everything (this was my first motorhome ever) and enough for managing everythig during the whole trip.
No surprises when droping the motorhome off. I read many reviews of other companies charging important amounts for damages that were there before the rental. Not my case.
Definitely, I would recommend Motorvana and McRent.

The trip was AMAZING from beginning to end. One comment about the pick up at Keflavik Airport, we arrived earlier than our pick up so we followed the direction to the meeting point. Not being sure we were in the right place, after a short walk around, I found a very large orange sign that said, in english, "MEETING POINT". This confused us a little but found out to follow the instruction provided by Motorvana they were perfect. Check in at Touring cars was very very through, you will feel comfortable with your camper by the time you leave. All the information provided in advance by Motorvana made the check in expectations easy. The camper itself was perfect size for two,, not much larger than a Van, just a little longer. Driving was no problem, they provided a small tablet with a navigation system (however we utilized our own smartphone and google, just because we were more used to it) it also included a messaging system to contact touring cars. No matter how warm blooded you think you are, bring a good rain coat with a hood. Even if it not raining or windy, if you want to see the beautiful water falls up close, they make their own, very wet, climate. Be prepared for Gas prices (almost $9 per gallon) but the sites are so wonderful you will feel it is worth it. Also on the subject of Gas, many are Pay At The Pump only and you MUST enter a PIN so our credit card would not work and we had to use our Debit Card. Sites, wow stay at attention, stop often as many of the things to see are right on the road side, so if you see cars stopped, then PLAN to stop. Our plan was to see many of the big Waterfalls, but many of the little side stops were just as amazing. Food, try the fish soup every chance you get, you will never be disappointed especially at the city of RIF it is listed as the best in Iceland, I concur. I am glad we found Motorvana, they contacted multiple vendors to find both a camper and a price that worked to our liking. Took all the legwork and the technical issue out of our hand and covered all our needs. If one site does not have the camper you want, have them check back again, we actually got ours on a second check and the on-site vendor told us that cancellations are frequent. Iceland is truly an amazing adventure, we were there for 6 days, drove 1200 miles around the ring road and out to the tip of one of the peninsula's, this was enough time to see the large or close sites, but it just broke the ice and gave us plenty of ideas for a second trip... Thanks, hope all enjoy their trip...
Kristy Amy, USA, posted on 4 August 2018, vendor was Camper IcelandCamper Iceland provided with a nice RV with everything working. The main reason that I gave it 4 stars is that they did not provide any information as to where to camp, the nuances of finding electricity (we never had it once), and where to dump. When we went to return our RV, we were driving all over town at midnight trying to find a place to dump our black water. It would have been helpful if they had provided specific instructions on where to do this that were near the RV return location. Also, I will say that it felt like we were signing our life away a bit as nothing was covered. We needed to return the RV with out a single rock chip or scratch. This is quite the feat on the Iceland side roads.
Overall we had an amazing time visiting the country and loved our RV experience!

We had a great experience renting via the Motorvana/McRent partnership. All of the transactions went smoothly and we picked up the van without a hitch. It was clean, ready to go, and very comfortable. We had rented a wi-fi hotspot for the camper and it turned out to be glitchy. We called McRent who advised us to seek out a Vodafone shop in Hofn or Egilsstadir, but neither had a battery for the unit. We finally were able to get a replacement unit in Akureyri, but we spent quite a bit of time working out the wi-fi logistics on our vacation. Going wi-fi hotspot shopping is certainly one way to get to know a country more personally! To their credit, McRent repaid us fully for the unit we had to buy. We had a few suggestions for McRent, such as including 2 lighters for the stove in case one fails (as ours did) and having a vehicle instruction manual in English in order to figure out some of the symbols on the vehicle dash, but overall the camper and experience were great and we'd do it again in a heartbeat.
We found the campsites throughout Iceland to be quite good, and it was a fun way to travel through a beautiful country.

The vehicle we rented was nearly new and had no problem. The issue was a series of more minor items that proved to be irritating, and ruined an otherwise good rental. 1) The girl who checked us in and did the orientation, had never driven the vehicle she was showing us how to use. When we ask her how to put the vehicle in reverse, she did not know you had to pull up on the collar to get into Reverse. She also never told us about the black control box by the bed, this became an issue later. 2) The web site said you needed a chemical toilet bottle for each week, so we pre-ordered three bottles for our three week trip. When we saw the size of the bottles we knew that this was way too much. There was no flexibility to trade this excess off for something else. 3) We had a portable heater in the RV and half way through the trip it died. I call the office to get approval to buy a replacement and was told that we should not have a portable heater, they were only for winter rental. I can't imagine driving this large two wheel drive in the winter. No replacement was authorized. 4) Shortly after that our propane bottle ran out of gas late at night. We were unable to properly transfer the bottle connection, so we had no heat that night. The temps were approaching freezing at night, so a portable heater sure would have been nice! 5) The next day we went to a service station and got a new bottle and had the attendant hook it up. We thought we were all set but we still could not get heat the following night due to a control issue. Another cold night! No portable heater either. We called the office the next day and were told about the black control box by the bed. Once we got things reset we had heat again. 6) When we returned the vehicle, we still had two unopened bottles for the chemical toilet, which they could have easily resold. We were told it was not their problem, we should seek a refund from Motorvana. 7) After the rental, we had some food and misc items left over, so we bagged them up and put them on the table where other renters going out could pick them up. No sooner had we dropped the bag off, one of the shop guys came over, picked up our bag and immediately took it upstairs. Later we saw some of the items we had bagged on the shelf, but the more desirable items were missing, including 5 rolls of toilet paper, paper towels, crackers, tee bags, and other edibles.

We had a great experience. The campervan was in excellent condition. At pick-up they were very thorough going over everything for about 1 hr. Had a great trip. We had a few times where the wind speed was over 15m/sec and had to wait until it died down. Small suggestion was our camper was designed for 6 but the pots and fry pan were quite small so hard to cook a large quantity at a time. I would suggest providing bigger pans if cooking for a larger #, a vegetable peeler, and a couple of large spoons/ ladles. We brought 2 knifes from home with us which came in handy as we only were provided with 1.

We had a great experience with Touring Cars. The staff was extremely pleasant, helpful and informative. Matthew explained everything in detail and answered a lot of questions we had as this was our first time to rent an RV. Iceland was probably the most beautiful place we have ever been. Touring Cars has a 24 hour hotline that, unfortunately, we had to use a couple of times because I am not the best listener! I couldnt recommend this company more and If you get the chance I would suggest that you visit Iceland. The landscape literally changes every 100 miles and there just wasnt enough time to soak it all in. Virtually everyone speaks English and the people are extremely friendly and accommodating. They keep their island very clean and take great steps to preserve its beauty. Thanks Touring Cars for a great time!

Our 14 day trip through Iceland in May was really nice, even though the weather was rather uncooperative - May 2018 was the coldest and wettest in 100 years.
Our McRent vehicle was in pristine condition and we had no problems whatsoever. Being informed via text messages about severe wind conditions was helpful, but checking the vedur.is app and website regularly (like recommended by McRent staff) allowed for a more detailed insight into the conditions. Thus prepared we only got bogged down once due to strong winds - since we had no pre-planned schedule we just drove where the weather was acceptable and that proved to be a good idea.
Even though we did damage the RV slightly in the last possible moment before returning it, McRent found a very customer friendly solution for this and we could not be happier with the service provided. As for the rental through Motorvana - everything went well.

We rented the motorhome from 28th of october to 4th of november to do the south part of Iceland and we had an amazing time! We were two couples and we both slept very well and had lunch and dinner every day together inside the car! We thought it would get cold at night but the heater was more than enough. It was a great way of saving money and i totally recommend doing Iceland with a motorhome because you can park pretty much anywhere you want. You can overnight in front of a waterfall or even at the base of jokursalon glacier. At night you cant see anything but when the day comes the view is always breathtaking. We paid for a camping place only one night out of the 7 nights we spent in iceland. If you organize properly you will save money there as well. The company was great since check in until our check out! They give you a tablet that you can write to them if you have any technical issue so that was very helpful and made us feel safe ;) really would love to go back to Iceland and do the north part now! Definately with a motorhome again! I loved it!

Booking our trip's rental thru Motorvana gave us the peace of mind that when arriving in a foreign country, our trip would go off without a hitch.
We were able to email Motorvana up until the last minute to ensure everything was squared away. When we arrived, Touring Cars was there as soon as they opened to pick us up and get us to the RV site. They provided us a great RV in excellent condition along with all the essentials we would need in the cold Icelandic wild. Most importantly, they went over all the SAFETY details that people unfamiliar with an RV may not know. Road safety, weather conditions, and other unknown variables pop up all the time in Iceland - the weather changes every 5 minutes! Knowing how to safely operate the vehicle ensured our trip was amazing.
We would absolutely recommend both Motorvana and Touring Cars for a future vacation - not just in Iceland, but anywhere in Europe they provide service.

We were met promptly at the airport, and taken to the van handover. Due to weather conditions we couldn't commence travelling but the Touring Cars team couldn't be more helpful with assisting with shopping and finding us a safe parking spot for the night till the weather cleared.
Very friendly, knowledgable and friendly team at Touring Cars. Edgars was particularly helpful and informative to our needs and requirements.
The van was very tidy and clean and exactly as promised on the website, we had a few small requests that were happily accommodated. We returned the van on the due date and Edgars was on the spot to check the van and sign it off.
The how to manage the van - video was a great idea and we took notes. The back to base internet was also a great idea, and very handy in the off season for weather and advice during the trip.
We couldn't fault Touring Cars, Iceland at all

McRent accommodated a few changes we made to our trip, they were super professional and helpful on the day.
Great information on road trips and areas to avoid.
Only draw back was we did not receive the weather text messages due to service issues, but the emails were spot on and very helpful!
Great selection of vehicles available, very clean and well maintained.

Checking out was just as painless and once again they were a pleasure to deal with.
I would definetly reccomend seeing Iceland in a motorhome. The freedom to come and go as you please was great. The motorhomes are first class and are equipped with everything one needs.
Well done Motorvana!

Rented from McRent, met by staff on arrival, taken to their outstanding nearby facility, paperwork was straight forward and quick, RV was in very good condition, everything worked as advertised, no issues whatsoever. Mc Rent was very good in sending weather warnings when warranted, despite they said theyd sent SMS which were never received they followed it with emails which were received in a timely manner. The entire ring road trip was an Amazon adventure and it could not have been done any way other than on a camper, return was just as easy as pickup.
Would like to add that we had to make changes before the actal trio dates and McRent accommodated the changes without much trouble.

The campers where in perfect condition. The facility was first class. The people were helpful. It was very close to the airport. I would recommend them 100%. As a matter of fact I intend on going again next year and specifically asking for them again. This was a wonderful journey for me and my family. I would recommend it and the company to anyone. Enjoy!

Customer service and the camper van were great. The unit was just as advertised and everything was clean, extras furnished as ordered and everything worked well for our 10 day excursion around the island. Was disappointed about the shuttle service as advertised by Motorvana. Paid $70 per person for shuttle service from the airport to Rykvit to pick up the unit. Only thing was the McRent place was only 7 minutes from the airport not the 45 minutes as explained on line. Real surprise! McRent people picked us up at 8:30, which was great as we got in at 6, Motorvana told us pickup would be 9:30-10:00. Disappointed about the cost and confusion on this. Guys at McRent were very helpful and service efficient.

First motorhome holiday and based on this experience would definitely do it again. Holiday was planned as a photography tour. The motorhome gave us the flexibility to stay as long or as short a time as we wanted at any location. It also provided a base for my wife when she got fed up with me taking photo's. As it happened she loved the country as much as I did so did not need her knitting !!! Motorvana were great to deal with and Touring Cars were equally good. I was a little worried about (very) minor damage being made an issue as I'd seen this in reviews I'd read before booking (not necessarily by touring cars). In our case there were no issues, the before and after inspections were very thorough, a clear description was given of what would be a problem and what would not. The vehicle had 65,000 km on the clock but was pretty immaculate internally, apart from the trim coming off in a couple of places. Storage space was really good and it was pretty easy to keep the vehicle clean and tidy internally despite some wet and muddy walks. We circumnavigated the island during our 14 days. I think it would be tough to do it in much less time and spend any reasonable amount of time at any location - our trip included two 5 hr drives in order to "cover the ground". Canada next and I'd have no hesitation in using Motorvana and Touring Cars again.

We have rented many cars and motorhomes in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Europe, and the USA, so have a pretty good idea of what to expect.
Motorvana......excellent to deal with in every respect. McRent.......also excellent to deal with. Our 4 berth near-new Fiat-based Breezer motorhome was in excellent condition......very well built, comfortable, and with everything we needed for our two-week rental period. The staff were very professional and provided a thorough and comprehensive hand-over. There were a couple of small glitches......the engine oil warning indicated that the oil level was low (easily fixed by topping up with the correct grade oil), and the grey water tank release valve was not working properly, making it difficult, but not impossible, to empty the tank. We covered nearly 3000 kms all around the country and found the motorhome to be surprisingly economical for a vehicle weighing 3 tons.....we averaged just under 10 litres/100 kms for the trip. The scenery was amazing and we had no trouble finding campgrounds, but were surprised at how busy they still were in September......a couple of campground managers indicated that it is absolute mayhem during the June-July high season. We thoroughly recommend visiting Iceland and touring in a motorhome........it's a great way to go. We also thoroughly recommend Motorvana and McRent......they are great companies to deal with.

Our travel agent found Motorvana when I inquired about renting a camper in Iceland. Motorvana was able to get the type of camper I was looking for, a 4x4 truck with a slide-in camper. They used Camper Iceland. Camper Iceland was very accommodating and helpful. The truck was an older Ford F350 which was in good shape and a vehicle I am familiar with. It was "Ford tough". The camper was 3 years old and had been used a lot. Everything worked but somethings needed replacing. The mattress was worn out. The carbon monoxide monitor would go off randomly for no apparent reason. I had to have the stairs repaired during the trip (a minor fix). The only thing that really did not sit well with me is the 200km (125 miles) daily limit. You could get unlimited mileage for an additional cost but if you went over it was very costly. I would still use Camper Iceland but would possibly check out other rental companies first. As far as using Motorvana they were great. All request that I made via e-mail were responded to in a timely manner. They sent very detailed information prior to the trip as what to expect regarding the rental and driving around Iceland. I was satisfied with the customer service. If you are planning your first trip to Iceland and are considering camping, I highly recommend Motorvana as your point of contact for booking.

Having the RV was an amazing experience and one of the best ways to see Iceland. Given the pricey nature of the country, the RV softened the blow by allowing us to cook our own food and stay at camp sites (which are plentiful and easy to find). The maintenance of the RV was a lot easier than I thought (this was my first time in one). Also surprising, the beds were comfortable! The mobility allowed us to make use of our time there in the best way, by being close to all the sites, which is helped by the fact that the roads in Iceland go near the places you want to see. The only piece of advice I would give is regarding insurance - make sure you have it BEFORE getting the RV as the rental place does not contain insurance of their own. (I thought I could add it last minute, but had to scramble while there). Luckily I didn't need it, but it is something to keep in mind when doing the booking. Other than that the experience was phenomenal.
All in all, I highly recommend using an RV when seeing the country.

We reserved our unit through Motorvana almost a year in advance and paid the balance in full at time of booking. Knowing the price in advance in my own currency and getting some discounts added to the experience. I am pleased to say everything went without a hitch.
We arrived in Iceland at 6:30AM. After customs and the mandatory duty free shopping (booze is very expensive in Iceland so max out your limit), we took a taxi to the McRent site to see if we could leave our bags until our 11:00 am scheduled check-in. The McRent staff were just arriving for work but they processed us immediately which was an unforgettable welcome after a long journey. The early check-in did not impact the departure check-in. This gave us a head start which was very much appreciated. The unit was exactly as we ordered and the run through by the McRent staff was thorough with full explanations on how to operate the equipment. We reviewed our itinerary with them and the staff indicated which routes were closed. Overall we found McRent staff to be professional, helpful and engaging.
We rented a 6 person Sunlight A72. It had a four person dinette set on the passenger side and a two person dinette set on the driver's side. There was four of us so we initially thought the two passengers in the back would each be able to have a front facing window seat. Unfortunately the four seat belts in the back were all in the large dining area. It would have been nice for everyone to have their own window seat facing forward to appreciate the spectacular, ever-changing scenery. Two people slept in the above-cab bed and two slept in the back bunk beds so the dining area was always available for seating. We rented for 23 nights and it took some time for us to get over the jet-lag so that available seating was appreciated. A slight inconvenience with this unit was that the ladder to the top bunk interfered with the bathroom door which meant squeezing in (no easy task with a full bladder). The black water tank is portable and needs to be emptied almost daily. Warning..Reykjavik campsite does not have backwater disposal so you are forced to leave the campsite and risk losing your spot.
The roads in Iceland are a pleasure to drive and for the most part they are well maintained. The west fjords have some challenging mountainous sections with dirt roads and numerous switchbacks. We lost two hubcaps due to road construction outside Myvatn. We removed the remaining 2 hubcaps until the end of the trip. That lesson learned cost us $88 Euro for McRent to replace the two hubcaps. Zap straps could have solved the issue. I mentioned this to McRent as I noted some other rental companies had performed this service. East Iceland and south Iceland had some very windy areas so driving was akin to bull riding at times. We used Reykjavik as a base camp.
We also rented a 4X4 from Lagoon Car rentals for 4 days to explore Landmannalaugar and other areas the motorhome couldn't go. The car rental helped with the Reykjavik porta-potty disposal issue. I also had a positive experience with Lagoon Car rentals and would recommend them. Their cost for 4 days was less than the cost from Reykjavik cars for 3 days. I could go on and on but most people have already stopped reading. Many thanks to Motorvana because through them our overall Iceland experience was fabulous. All four of us give Motorvana two thumbs up.

Don't get me wrong we loved our R.V. It keep us warm and dry. The vehicle drove and handled extremely well on any road surface. Drive till your tired or till that perfect night spot comes along. We rented for 10 nights and wished we had 10 more (we will be back ). One of the reasons one rents a R.V. is to take you to the areas you wish to stay in. Then there's nothing better then parking it and then walk, hike and explore the wonderful country side. Wonderful vacation will do it again.

This review is a credit to Motorvana. The fact that we can give them such lofty praise is remarkable considering what we went through on a vacation to Iceland. While our camper rental was a disaster - no fault of Motorvana - the story is far too long for this format. I'll skip to the end, when we were promised a refund from the camper rental company themselves. But that refund never materialized. That's when Motorvana's great business ethics came to the rescue! Eric was absolutely wonderful to work with, remained engaged and did everything he could possibly do to see that the camper company refunded us. When that seemed to have failed, Motorvana stood by their reputation and made good on their promises to us themselves. Eventually, we were actually refunded twice, so we sent the second refund back to Eric. Now this is the way good business relationships are forged. We will contact them first the next time our travel plans involve anything they could help us with. Great people, great service, a rare gem in the web-business world!

Campers Iceland were understaffed and overworked. When we arrived we waited for a while for the staff to deal with another group. When they started to take care of us, another group was having trouble with their Wi-Fi router so our guy went out to help them. Eventually we were given a very quick tour of our camper, and very little explanation. After our guy left, I realized he hadn't given me the pocket Wi-Fi I rented so I went back to ask for him. I overheard the staff talking about not ever having a break so they were quickly eating a pizza in the back. He eventually brought it to me so I was ready to leave. The RV door wouldn't lock so I went back inside the office to tell them but my guy had already left. They called him and asked him to come back and I waited another 20 minutes for him to see that yes, the door was not going to lock and so he left to get a mechanic who came and checked it and then left to get his tools. With his trusty crowbar he fixed it and I was on my way. When I got to my destination I realized that the sunroof was open and the lever you pull for the gray water was sticking out the whole time. The camper itself was beautiful. Very new and wonderful to drive. It was impossible to shut the toilet door and the RV's door still wouldn't lock from the outside so we would always have to go in and out through the driver's door when we needed The RV locked. The RV came with no broom or toilet paper or chemicals for the toilet but you could pay extra for those. My brother and father both rented from McRent and it sounds like they have much better service -with explanations on how to use all of the amenities and how to read the wind-warning signs, etc, so they were able to help me since I got very little information from Campers Iceland when I picked up my camper. When I returned the camper I was questioned about two big dents in the back but I had luckily taken pictures of them the day I picked it up so I showed them to him, which was sufficient. I went with my dad to return his RV to the McRent place and I could see for myself that they had much better facilities and service. All in all my trip was the best vacation of my life. My family had a wonderful time in the RV. Everything was amazing. I was a little jealous of my dad and brother as their McRent campers seem to have been better maintained even though they were a little older than my camper. In conclusion Campers Iceland was understaffed and the Campers not really well-maintained compared to McRent. if you can, choose McRent. If there aren't any available there or elsewhere, Campers Iceland is better than nothing. I loved every minute of being in that RV, it just took an unnecessary while to get it, it was just a small hassle to try to lock it and also my wife did not like the fact you couldn't close the toilet door.

The first day was windy but the RV handled well though we were happy when the wind died down. The Compact Plus RV was comfortable for the 2 of us. We had 2 adults sleep on the bed in the rear, 3 teenager girls on the bed over the driver and our teenage son on the bed which converted at the table space.

This way of traveling by campervan is simply the best way to do it in Iceland. Our family of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our seven days campervan trip out of the 10 days we were in Iceland. The staffs, especially Ollie (Hope i got it right), was totally pleasant and patient in explaining details and answering our queries as it was a first for us. The Motorhome was very new, clean and luxurious. It had two double beds, toilet and shower room, a dining area, a well equipped kitchen with cooking stoves, a sink and a refrigerator. We were awed by the storage space in every nook and corner and the comfort of every facility in the spacious truck.
We had an unfortunate hit and run accident with a car hitting off our left rear view mirror while overtaking us. Fortunately, the small bottom part of the huge mirror wasn't nipped off so we were able to continue driving. We were only one-third through the more remote part of the Ring Road and Emergency help came from McRent by their swift response in flying out a new set of mirrors to our next destination where a mechanic at a garage, got it fixed for us immediately within the hour.
Returning to the office, preparing and settling this issue, was a brisk and fair affair. Indeed, I would recommend using McRent as our experience with the service staffs are all very professional, pleasant and good. Of course while doing our best to take good and reasonable care of the Motorhome, I must add that they were not out to be fussy to try to find fault at all with the vehicle, as we so wrongly feared we might encounter.
Overall, a most out of the world and memorable trip of our lifetime.

I cannot fault these guys, van was in excellent condition & clean. We had a small problem with the fridge not working but it was simply a door clip position that needed adjusting, the McRent guys were contactable 24hrs & it was solved quickly. I would have no hestitation using McRent again. Thanks guys for a great holiday.

John, posted on 13 August 2015, vendor was Touring CarsRecently returned from Iceland on a 6 day trip around the island. Motorvana and Touring Cars organised the RV and everything went well. The briefing was good, staff very helpful, pickups went well and the RV in good condition. First time using an RV and now very enthusiastic about doing this again. Iceland is expensive but the people are friendly and the scenery fantastic.

Highly recommended and the ideal way to visit Iceland..
Daniel, posted on 10 June 2015, vendor was McRent IcelandMotorvana was great! They provided all the required information and reminded us of things to watch out for and pay close attention to. They were quick to respond to e-mails. They gave you comfort of mind after having spent such a large amount on a rental motor home which was still a couple of months away.
McRent in Iceland was very organized and they really take care of you. Just be careful not to damage anything...prices go up very quickly!
Cristina, posted on 9 June 2015, vendor was Touring CarsIt was our first time renting a campervan. That is why we decided Motorvana as everything is detailed in the contract and they booked the vehicle with a local company (touring cars) in time. No setbacks, everything went smoothly.
Carrie Wallace, posted on 5 March 2015, vendor was McRent IcelandSpent 8 days in a McRent camper Van, the van was very clean and comfortable. The staff went out of their way to help us out when we had a problem while travelling. We were sent weather updates everyday to warn us of high winds and Ice on roads. Over all would recommend renting a van to any one travelling to Iceland. 100% satisfaction with van and staff experience.

GOMEZ Family, Mexico, posted on 31 August 2014, vendor was Touring CarsWe are so glad we decided to rent a motorhome for our trip to Iceland!! We rented from Touring cars via Motorvana and we recomend both. We had a wonderful time, and only regret not having been able to spend more days in that beautiful country.
Anne Todd, South Africa, posted on 1 August 2014, vendor was McRent IcelandWe rented a motor home from McRent in Keflavik. They were extremely helpful and professional and went the extra mile many times during our 18 day visit to Iceland in May. Our son, who was meeting us at Keflavik from the UK, was able to collect the camper prior to our arrival as we were delayed in Amsterdam for 20 hours. We then completed all the paper work and checking of vehicle the next day and the guys from McRent answered all our questions and gave us plenty of info as well as a sim card for my phone.
There were also plenty of info pamphlets in the camper. We did unfortunately damage a rear wheel when crossing a very narrow bridge. We put on the spare wheel and McRent flew in another spare wheel the next morning, as we did not want to travel on the back roads of the Western Fjords without a spare wheel. They organised for a mechanic in a nearby village (on a Sunday) to check the vehicle. He found the damage done a bit more serious than we realized. McRent then advised us to take the ferry to Strykkisholmur where they met us with a replacement camper so that we could continue our trip. A few days later when we were near Reykjahlid, they phoned us to say our camper had been repaired and that we needed to swop vehicles again. They met us along the way so that we did not need to drive all the way back to Keflavik. So in short, our holiday did not go according to plan but McRent really did everything and much more to help us so that we still had a fantastic trip in Iceland. They didn't charge anything for the extra time and traveling involved in swopping vehicles, being only concerned that we be able to continue our trip safely. We did of course forfeit the deposit. Our holiday could so easily have turned out to be 1 week in Reykjavik without transport. They certainly do their utmost to help their clients and have such a positive attitude that nothing is a problem. They will always make a plan. Thank you most sincerely McRent Iceland. We certainly can recommend you.
Darin, Canada, posted on 31 July 2014, vendor was Touring CarsThe folks at Motorvana really do provide exceptional customer service, and I would certainly recommend booking here. The rental was from Touring Cars, and I was happy with the equipment and service we received there also. Thoroughly inspecting the vehicle and taking pictures is critical, as well as learning the vehicle, which makes the rental and return a bit tedious, but that's the reality of renting a motorhome. The RV allowed us so much freedom to explore Iceland, we couldn't have imagined doing things any differently.
Karen bartlett, posted on 9 October 2013, vendor was Touring CarsWould recommend Motorvana. We had an excellent trip and staff were v friendly.
Reedtz-Runge, posted on 11 August 2013, vendor was Touring CarsWe had a fantastic trip to Iceland 8-18 July, 2013. Motorvana found a good deal (as good as you can expect on Iceland...), and the information on the homepage was quite good. The camper was nice, although well used. The team at the rental place were wery nice and friendly. We can recommend Motorvana!
Horton's, posted on 1 October 2012, vendor was Touring CarsWe rented a Touring Car motorhome for 18 days to travel the ring road and take side trips. Overall, our experience was very positive. Renting an RV is the most convenient and cost-effective way to travel the entire country.
We did experience a few issues - we reserved a motorhome to sleep only 2 seven months in advance of our trip, but got one that was designed for 6. Same price, but very large. And, a few items failed to work reliably, such as the automatic step - it would retract without notice. Also, the valve on the gray-water tank would not open, so we needed to be a little careful about how much water we collected. So, we washed our dishes at campground sinks. We did have our furnace fail to operate, but a call to Touring Cars helped us solve the problem. We needed to reset the electrical system. As previously mentioned, Touring Cars was very helpful. They did call us about high winds in Vik.
It is important to be fully alert when making your initial check of the vehicle. Take a lot of pictures. You need to try everything (even the gray water release valve!) and be very careful about all blemishes. Open the drawers and doors, look around the cushions, carefully inspect the exterior. There can be a lot of hidden damage.
Check-in was a little trying. It took almost 2 hours for them to finish the inspection - we passed, by the way. So allow for the extra time.
In short, Touring Cars treated us fairly and provided everything we requested. We would rent with them again.
One thing about campgrounds - especially if you are camping in the late spring or early summer - there may not be anyone in the office to take your fee. Just wait a bit and someone usually comes around and knocks on your door. This is very different from campgrounds in the US - much more relaxed! Get the camping card, too.
PS: Bring your own GPS with Icelandic maps. We did and never had any problems finding anything.

Van Nieuwenhuyse, posted on 17 August 2011, vendor was Touring CarsIn a period of 16 days we did the tour of iceland with a motorhome. This was our first motorhome experience and it was very positive. We found the motorhome to be the ideal way to do this kind of roundtrip with our family (2 adults and 3 kids between 7 and 12y). Our experience with booking and collecting/drop of is also positive. The fact that, during our trip, we were informed regularly on potential heavy wind hazards gave us a comfortable feeling.
JOSE M. OLIVER, BARCELONA, SPAIN, posted on 12 September 2010, vendor was Touring CarsOur personal experience was very positive; everything was fine, from rental service to travelling and camping.
Camper rental is very good idea for travelling around Iceland, except if you are planning going deeply inland. Campsites are correct and well placed. For Reykjavik, the boy scout's camp is the best.
We get no troubles when picking up or dropping off the car. Information obtained with the car was correct. The car was 1 year old, so no problems with hardware.
We're wondering about our next travel on a motorhome...
